Privacy Policy

A plain-language explanation of what CalorieFocus collects and why.

What we collect

CalorieFocus stores the account identifier created by our authentication provider, nutrition goals you choose, food logs, saved meals, weight check-ins, entitlement status, scan-usage records, and quality reports you deliberately submit. If you protect a guest account, we also process your email address. If you choose a profile photo, we keep a private account copy so it can survive app updates and follow you to another signed-in device.

Meal photos

A meal photo is compressed on your device and sent through our protected backend to OpenAI for the analysis you request. CalorieFocus does not place raw meal-scan images in its database or cloud storage, and the temporary on-device copy is deleted after analysis unless you deliberately enable local saving. An optional profile photo is separate from meal scans and is stored privately only for your account. OpenAI states that API data is not used to train models unless the account opts in, but request content may be retained in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days under its data-control policy. Images are never used by CalorieFocus for advertising.

Food and purchase services

Food search and US barcode queries use USDA FoodData Central first. Unmatched barcodes may be queried against Open Food Facts, a community-maintained database licensed under the Open Database Licence (ODbL); the app identifies those records and links to the source. Photo analysis uses OpenAI through a server-side integration. Subscription status is handled by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat; CalorieFocus does not receive your full payment-card details.

Analytics and advertising

CalorieFocus does not sell personal information and does not include third-party advertising. We use only operational records needed to secure the service, enforce fair-use scan limits, restore accounts, and correct recurring data-quality problems.

Retention and deletion

You can delete your account and its associated profile, optional profile photo, food, weight, saved-meal, entitlement, and feedback data from Settings in the app. CalorieFocus does not retain raw meal-scan images on its server; deliberately saved copies remain only on your device until you delete the log or app data. After account deletion, a one-way hash of the device identifier and limited scan timestamps/status may remain without the account identifier so the one-time free allowance and abuse protections cannot be reset. These fraud-prevention records are not used for advertising. Service providers may retain limited operational or abuse-prevention records under their published policies.

Your choices

Sharing is always opt-in. You may hide calorie numbers before sharing. A profile photo is optional. You can use CalorieFocus anonymously, protect the account later, disable reminders, and choose whether meal photos are saved locally.

Children and health

CalorieFocus is not directed to children under 13 and is for general informational wellness tracking, not diagnosis or medical advice.
